Check the eVANgelisim Link
We will be updating the eVANgelism page here in the next hour or so, check it out. http://evan-mumc.blogspot.com
Please pray for a dear brother in Christ named Walter Smith as he minsters downtown. Check the eVANgelism page for more info on him.
Also pray for the ministry of PC4M (Passion For Christ Movement). They are an inner city ministry in Los Angeles California that is working hard to expose and root out the idolatry that plagues youth in urban areas. Note that this idolatry also affects you as youth in this Church. Check out their site www.pc4m.com and take a look around. You may be suprised what you see. Below is a video clip to show some of what their ministry is doing. I think we are capable of doing similar video type things that are relevant to the culture we live in.

What's been going on
State of Youth Ministry Address
I hope to post this occasionally (a few times a year) just to examine where we are at.
It is hard to believe it is the middle of March, and the end of the school year is only a few months away! We really only have about 12 more weeks of standard programming before we launch into summer ministry (something I personally am very excited about.) Now is a good time for us to reflect on where we have been, and where we are going.
WOW
Let's look at some of what has happened. WOW was a large part of youth ministry last school year, and many 8th graders who are now freshman attended. Sadly to this point the vast majority of those youth have gone their own way, and we to date have not made a direct effort to create programming for them, and draw them back in, however that will be changing in the near future. We struggled for 3 months to get WOW to be vibrant ministry with a sizable group of youth in attendance, and after much prayer WOW has finally taken off. Just a month and a half ago we averaged about 5-7 youth each week, and in this past month we have seen 8 fold growth with 42 youth in attendance last week, and no sign of slowing down!! Most of the attendance is 6th graders, but we are now starting to get a small foothold in both the 7th and 8th grade class, and we expect massive growth as it catches on in these age groups. This is an exciting time for WOW. We have had a lot of success engaging the youth in small group conversations, and the youth appear very open to the truths that are presented.
Sunday School
I cannot say enough about our Sunday School teachers and students this year. It is common that we have 40 or more youth from 6th thru 12th grade in Sunday school. The amazing thing is that if we change the time like we do on the 1st Sunday of the month they will alter their schedules to be able to come. The teachers are presenting sound biblical truth and the youth are engaged in it.
Youth Fellowship
We have a number of stories from youth fellowship this year. From ski trips, to room renovations, sledding, going to camps, picking apples, baking pies, making cakes, witnessing at Meijer (and getting kicked out), doing service projects, helping with benefits, hanging of the greens, moving playground equipment, serving dinners, and many many more things. We have a mission trip planned for this summer. We have had failures in YF as well. We have had a number of meetings that, even though they were fun, lacked biblical content, and this group while robust and consistent has plateaued in size. We have anywhere from 30 to 40 youth typically. Certainly size is not the measure of success, but we hope to reach even more youth in the future through this program.
Carpe Diem
Morning fellowship has been outstanding in the High School group. Granted everyone seems to tired at 6:30 to think much, but nonetheless they are faithful in attending. We meet Thursday mornings at the Rohloff's and typically have 8 youth and have had up to 13. We think it is a testament to the faith of these youth that they rise up as early as they do to be in fellowship with each other. The Junior High group is struggling a bit to get off of the ground. We have had up to 5 youth but lately only 1 or 2 have been coming. The location is going to change for this, and some new tactics are going to be implimented, and we believe that before years end Jr. High Carpe Diem (it will be renamed) will likely exceed the Sr. High in attendance. Keep posted for developments in this area.
eVANgelism
This is a totally new minstry this year. It was born out of a leading of the Lord after one leader came back from a mission trip. After a very brief discussion we determined that it was time to head out, serve the community and pass out prayer squares and pray for and with people. The very night of that conversation eVANgelism was borne. I think it has run for about 7 weeks, we have encountered many people, passed out around 80 prayer squares, got the names of 57 people for prayer. We have given gallons of Cocoa, full size quilts, cookies, sandwiches, swiss cake rolls, stew, fruit, and more. We have been downtown, and to the University of Toledo, and have plans to hit the malls in the coming weeks. We are at the very beginning of a major shift in youth ministry at our church, and eVANgelism is a primary example of the types of things that will be occuring. This program has also engergized the congregation as well, and our hope is that we would be an encouragement to those in the congregation who are not yet actively involved in sharing their faith.
A few things in progress...
Coming very soon is the 'Uprising'. This is a program that is in the initial planning stages. The city of Maumee, and the Superintendant of schools are currently open to our idea. Respectfully we must go through all the proper channels to make this ministry possible, and we want to be biblical by respecting and submitting to all the existing authorities. We live in a fantastic community that is open to endeavors such as this. The primary goal of the Uprising is to connect youth with Christian adults to do service in our community. Assuming we can get all the logistics in order, and the blessing of the various powers that be, we will be serving a pancake breakfast every Thursday morning outside of the High School that will be free to all students and teachers. From there we will proceed to engage youth with oppurtunities to serve in their community and transform their world. They will be the Uprising and we hope they will alter history! We do have dreams of this spreading to other communities as well. This program will also in its initial stages be used to directly engage those who were involved in the WOW program last year.
We also have an idea brewing that I am initially calling 'MONback' short for 'Come on Back', with a capital MON because it will occur on Monday. The plan is to have a group of youth head out in a van or car with an adult and visit various youth who have not attended in while, or missed a week or two. The adult will never leave the car. This will be fun, plus lets face it, nobody wants a postcard, or a call from an adult asking "Hey where have you been" but if the youth engage each other it promotes community and will show the missing youth they are valued by more than just their leaders. We will have literature, goodies, and such that we will pass out as well.
Carpe Diem will be renamed for the Jr. High youth, and will be moved to Church grounds. This will draw a number of WOW youth who have already expressed interest in this. Later in the year we will even be able to do this outside, and possibly have a Junior High Uprising.
There are a number of summer activities in the works as well, some will involve daytime street evangelism, local mission work, non local mission work, and of course Cedar Point, Baseball Games, Pool Parties, and so on. The summer could very well be more busy than the school year. There will be more oppurtunities for Christian action and service, and less standard programming.
Of course there is more brewing in my head, as well as the other leaders and hopefully I will be able to post in a few months about how amazing all these events have been.
Warmest Regards in Christ,
Jay Miklovic

eVANgelism - Update

This past Thursday we went to the University of Toledo of eVANgelism. We did not encounter a lot of people, and we later learned that it was because they were on spring break. Go figure. We did get prayer squares and cocoa to three people and encountered a few more. Click the list above to expand it, and please pray for some of those on this list.

eVANgelism - Update from 2.28.2008

Click on the image above to see the names of the people we have encountered, please pray for at least a couple of them! Last night we spoke with a number of people and got the names of 7 new people. This week we also passed out cookies that were prepared at 6:30am by the youth who attend Carpe Diem at the Rohloffs, as well as sandwiches that were made from the leftover meat from the ski trip.
Please look at the youth bulletin board if you are at the Church to see the map of where we have been, where we plan on going in the future.
As always please contact me if you are interested in participating, or learning about eVANgelism.

eVANgelism Update from 2.21.08

Last night was a great run at eVANgelism, and we encountered a number of people who were open to prayer, and graciously received the Cocoa from us. We also passed out 3 quilts which were given to us by a member of our congregation. Our time of prayer both before and after the trip was excellent, and we trust that the Lord is pleased with what is occuring so for.
Please click the picture above to expand it and consider praying for at least some of those who are on this list.
Contact me if you are interested in helping with this ministry in any way.

Video Available
There is camp michindoh video available on the High School YF Page. It is a little crude, and need some work, but it is a start. Also, I am going to begin to upload youth photos onto Snapfish where you will be able to look at them and order them if you would like.
Let me know if you have any questions about this. Snapfish allows you to order prints and pick them up at walgreens for 19cents per pic, or have them sent to your house (cost about 18cents per pic when you figure shipping.) To top it off, if you pick them up at Walgreens you never have to send you Credit Card over the web.
Snapfish does require you to sign up with a user name, and an e-mail, but they do not give it away, and the site is safe. (It is run by HP).
Anyway here is the link to some pictures we have uploaded so far.
